About Horsefeathers Mercantile Products
Southern Silk natural soaps are made with coconut oil, soybean and olive oil. Silkiness of the soap is enhanced by adding silk protein. Sodium hydroxide is used as a catalyst to convert the oil molecules to soap molecules. The sodium hydroxide is consumed by the reaction that does the conversion. The by-product of this process is glycerin and is one reason that the soaps are so gentle and moisturizing to the skin. Our scented soaps have fragrance added. The herb soaps contain various herbs and some of the soaps even contains pedals of the flower.
Personally speaking, we do not use anything else in our bathrooms as these soaps make cleaning up so much easier. If you get soap scum check your shampoo or brand-name soaps.
The gourds are hand carved then painted, stained, or wood burned. Some are etched to reveal a scene. Others are decorated. Our artisian takes tender care with each gourd. Each is one of a kind and unique.
In addition to the website, the products are available at local craft shows. And, by calling or coming by our workshop.
We hope you enjoy our products and use them often.
